Erik van Spronsen Wooden Sculpture Maquette for kubus

Erik van Spronsen Wooden Sculpture Maquette for kubus

This original wooden study model was created by Erik van Spronsen as the design prototype for his monumental Kubus sculpture, realized in 1987 for the Beemster Sculpture Route. Constructed from an open lattice of intersecting elements, it explores the artist’s fascination with geometry, transparency and the relationship between structure and space.

Rather than enclosing volume, the work defines space through its internal framework, allowing light and the surrounding environment to become an integral part of the sculpture. As the original maquette for a large-scale public commission, it offers a rare insight into Van Spronsen’s creative process.
